Great Minds Think Alike...

Well, that's how the saying goes and people use it all the time.  Diane & I have almost found this to be our 'motto'!

So, back in October/November when we launched HerGame Face.com, naturally we both bought our first picece of "Fan Gear" from...well, US.  With Diane living in Chicago and Me in Florida, we didn't really talk about what was bought.  More about the fact we had both made our first purchase with HerGameFace.com.  And what we found out at a later date made us laugh, we had bought the SAME shirt independant of one another.

Jen's shirt: The Panthers Shirt

Diane's shirt: The Bears Shirt

So then, along came Christmas.  Yet again, we were both gonna buy from HerGameFace.com, why not?  So, Diane bought her (undisclosed) gift and Jen bought her (undisclosed) gift about 2 days apart.  Neither one saying a thing...both being the "Santa".  Then Jen received a gift, a wonderful gift:   A UNC Tarheel Hand Painted 22oz. Pilsner Glass.  (I would normally have included a link and a photo...but it's sold out!)
Low and behold, Jen had already sent this to Diane:

Yep, the very same glass.  So, there you have it, business partners that have worked together for, oh almost 7 years...and they start to buy each other the same things.  You laugh, because it's funny...like an old married couple.  But it's also comforting to know you have a compatible business partner, and friend!

Here's to you Diane and all the other funny times to come!

Here at Her Game Face we get lots of emails from sports stores about sales and new products, especially this time of year. We comb through these emails to find the best deals and products deserving of a spot on the site. So we were a bit confused when we excitedly clicked a Long Sleeve Tee Sale link in a recent FansEdge email:

And were taken here:

Every Man (and Woman) a Wildcat

Here I am getting ready for the game.

Living in Chicago I rarely (read next to never) get to attend any games at my alma-mater, K-State. So when my brother asked if I wanted to see a Kansas State basketball game while I was in town for Thanksgiving I jumped at the chance!

The game was in Kanasas City at the Sprint Center. While not exactly new to KC, I had never been to the Sprint Center before. It's impressive... a huge glassed in stadium right in the heart of downtown Kansas City.

It was a beautiful day and despite being the end of November, I needed just a light jacket. Crowds of purple-wearing K-State fans crowded the entrance. What a sight! I hadn't seen that many Wildcats in one place since college when we used to tailgate. It was a sight for sore eyes and made me a little nostalgic for college days. (Which sadly have LONG since passed...)

As we took our seats I was happy to see "Every Man a Wildcat" on the screen and a sea of purple and white.

The game was against IUPUI, which no one had ever heard of. We had to Google the school to figure out where they were from. (For those interested, IUPUI = Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis) We referred to the school as "ooey puey" until we figured out this out.

In any case, we ended up winning the game 70-57 and a good time was had by all. It wasn't a pretty win, and at one point my brother correctly noted that if we had been playing KU we would have been down by about 30 at the half. No way K-State can have a showing like that during conference play, but a win is a win. Fingers crossed they step up their game in the coming weeks and we beat those Jayhawks in January!

Go Cats!

The Ultimate "AWAY" Game

“I'm a Tar Heel born I'm a Tar Heel bred…” so a verse of the University of North Carolina fight song says. And it’s true, I do bleed Carolina blue and I am bound and determined to make sure my son does too! It’s my job after all. And just because he’s only 2 years old doesn’t mean it’s too young to start showing him the ropes (ok, brainwashing…whatever).

I decided in September that I had to plan a trip to North Carolina during the football season to be sure Jackson got the full Tarheel experience. A nice stroll down Franklin Street for lunch, a drink from the famous Old Well, a visit to his namesake (Jackson Hall) and of course, taking in a UNC football game in the gorgeous Kenan Stadium! This was an experience he had to have and the sooner the better.

Now this certainly was not his first time there. Let’s see he went to 3 games in utero and then another 2 last season. But this one was key because this would likely be the first one he would remember and it took a long trek to get there from our home in Florida.

We arrived early on Saturday, well before game time, decked out in our Tarheel gear from head to toe. Tarheel hats, shirts, jackets…you name it, we had it on! Shopping for great fan gear is another passion of mine, in fact I recently launched HerGameFace.com to help sports-crazy women like me find the best fan gear available. It was a perfect day. It was in the 70’s and we were surrounded by a Carolina Blue sky…and yes, that is an official color. We took care of all the sight seeing and now it was game time, woo hoo!!

Jackson’s eyes were as big as saucers when we walked through the tunnel in the stadium and out to where our sets were. I could tell, he was instantly taken back by it all…it was love at first sight. We took our seats on the 50 yard line, yes the 50 yard line, when it comes to my son and my school only the best will do. Plus, I had to make sure I could see all the action too. He sat there and watched over half the game, yes a 2 year old boy sat still for almost 2 hours. He clapped, pointed, cheered, chanted TAR….HEEELS, yelled touchdown and took it in like a full on Heels fan.

It was indeed the perfect day from start to finish. We beat Miami and most importantly I turned my son into a real, bonafide Tarheel fan!
